They’re aiming the new MG3 at being quite simply, a sporty compact car with plenty of character, and of course it bears that iconic British MG badge that is now surging back onto British roads, and in style.
As LincsMag picked up our demo car from Charles Warner in Lincoln, it was clear that MG are serious on muscling in on the small car market and they’re pretty confident they have a winner here as the top-of-the-range is costing only a mere £10,000.
The exterior styling is jazzy and makes the car look a fun motor to drive with the clean lines blending well with the snazzy LED running lights on all models.
For the top-of-the-range MG3 you get Bluetooth connectivity, a DAB radio, air-conditioning, 16-inch alloy wheels and cruise control all fitted as standard, not bad when you know that other rivals kitted out with that much equipment would cost nearly £13,000.
Of course at this price range there has to be a compromise with cabin quality on the plastics and controls, but that said, they are well laid out and easy to use and the steering and handling is good.
Performance and fuel consumption does slightly fall behind the leading competition, but then this car is more about being a fun run around at a very attractive price and here it delivers.
The MG3 is also surprisingly roomy for a small car as there’s plenty of knee room, and even tallish people won’t find themselves feeling cramped in this little run around, even on the odd long journey. Visibility is good all round and the seats are comfy making for an enjoyable ride.
This is a fun little car that doesn’t hurt the bank balance too much as it's been deliberately priced to be very competitive.
