The popular Spalding Motorcycle Show returned to the Springfields Events Centre at the end of January for another successful two-day show. Filling the centre the show had something to offer all motorcycling enthusiasts from early classics right up to the latest offerings from Suzuki, Kawasaki and Harley Davidson along with a scattering of racing machines.

Each day had a special guest for the public to meet and chat with, on Saturday Lincolnshire’s own Ben Wilson who competes in British Supersport Championship was present.

For Sunday the guest was the ever popular Yorkshire character James Whitham, a former British Superbike Champion and World Championship contender now seen on British Eurosport commentating on British and World Superbike racing.

On entry to the show I met with organiser Jason Lunn who was optimistic for a second good day following a busy first day. He went on to explain that local clubs and dealers have been keen to get involved and show support, which has lead to a great display of bikes.

The first hall I entered housed the classic element of the show and I was greeted by a hall filled with an array of classic and custom machines. The Joey Dunlop Foundation was the first stand I came to. Set up in memory of the popular Irish road racer and multiple Isle of Man TT winner the foundation were selling tickets to win a replica HM Plant Honda CBR along with Joey Dunlop memorabilia. All the iconic English names were represented in the hall, Norton, BSA, Ariel, Triumph and Francis Barnett along with some older foreign machines from Europe and Japan.

Old School

The custom scene was also represented by Old School Customs who had some impressive airbrushed machines along with modified one-off builds. The main hall was where I found the main trading area and local dealers showing off the latest machines. In here you could buy all you needed to ride your motorcycle in comfort and safety from race-replica leathers and helmets to more standard versions along with wet weather gear for those adverse weather days.

Also available were models, paintings and anything to personalise your pride and joy from decals to custom exhausts. Local dealer Wheels had bought a large selection of new machines from Suzuki, Honda and Kawasaki ranging from commuter scooters up to the fast sports bikes and tourers. While Sycamore Harley Davidson bought three of the current machines available from the iconic American manufacturers.

Local Motorcycle Organisations

The final section of the show is where local motorcycle organisations were promoting themselves along with Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership who were promoting their safe riding campaign.

Also in this section was the interview area where James Whitham was entertaining the crowd and talking about the work he does with various motorcycle related charities along with his predictions for the racing season ahead. Following this there was an opportunity for the show-goers to meet and have photos taken with James which proved very popular.

All together a popular and good show to start the season locally the exhibition will be back again next January, information can be found at springfieldsbikeshow.co.uk
