If you’re looking for a night out with some humour and laughs, as well as a drink or two, then not far from the Lincolnshire border and only a forty minute drive from Lincoln, there is The Rubicon, a Comedy Cabaret Club.

The Rubicon opened its doors for the first time on Friday, 5th April and a LincsMag team were there to see how the humour flowed, as compaire, Joe Bromehead introduced the three acts in turn, Steve Shanyaski, Andrew Watts and Paul Pirie. Be warned, the humour is very much adult orientated.

The Rubicon, located on Newcastle Avenue, and developed by local pub and club owner Richard Anthony, brings a mix of comedy cabaret and music to the region, with some of the big acts currently on the comedy circuit, but without the big arena price tags and in a more intimate venue.

Aspiration

With a capacity of three hundred and fifty, it’s long been an aspiration of Richard Anthony’s to run and own his own comedy cabaret club, and he’s looking forward to finally welcoming people through the doors.

“I’ve got a lot of experience in organising and hosting events, as well as running pubs and clubs of all sizes and types, and I get so much enjoyment from providing top class entertainment for others,” he explains.

“Launching The Rubicon though, is particularly exciting for me because at the moment, people have to travel to Nottingham, Lincoln or Sheffield to experience the entertainment that we’re going to offer,” he continues.

River of Laughs?

So why name it The Rubicon?

From the idiom "Crossing the Rubicon" which means to pass a point of no return, and refers to Julius Caesar's army's crossing of the Italian river in 49 BC, which was at the time considered an act of insurrection and so a case of no turning back. The idea is that as the comedians get on stage it's very much 'the point of no return' for them because they are now on show to the audience and either sink or swim! Well you can go there and decide.
