East Lindsey District Council have unveiled proposals for a multi-million pound redevelopment of Mablethorpe's Station Sports Centre and residents are now being asked to provide their feedback.

Funding

In 2019 the Council identified that a redeveloped Leisure Centre on the Station Sports site would cost in the region of £5m. The intention was to fund this through a mixture of Council funding and partner/grant funding.

However, Mablethorpe's subsequent inclusion in the Towns Fund initiative has allowed for a more comprehensive replacement facility to be proposed, one that serves as both a leisure centre and a new social and educational facility for the town.

The project is one of many likely to be considered through the Towns Fund bid for Mablethorpe and the Council have worked with their leisure partners, Magna Vitae, and leisure development specialists, Alliance Leisure, to bring the ambitious plans forward.

Name

The new facility would be called Station Leisure and Learning Hub and would incorporate a range of leisure facilities, including a fitness suite and 25m swimming pool, as well as community and digital learning spaces; serving the community not just as a place to get fit and stay healthy but also a place to meet and learn.

The District Council are now inviting residents to have their say on the proposals, which will help finalise plans ahead of a planning application being submitted later in the summer. The full plans and feedback survey are available online at www.StationSportsMablethorpe.co.uk.

Councillor Steve Kirk, Portfolio Holder for Coastal Economy, said: "I'm pleased to be able to share these plans with our residents. This a very exciting project and something we know the people of Mablethorpe have been wanting us to bring forward for some time. We know that residents were really keen to see a facility that wasn't just a leisure centre, something that would serve as a hub for the community and hopefully we've done that justice with these plans. I'd encourage everyone in and around the town to take a look at the plans and let us know what they think."

Feedback

The Station Leisure and Learning Hub feedback survey is open until Wednesday June 24th. Residents who are unable to complete the survey online can request a hard copy form by calling 01507 601111.
