You could be mistaken for thinking that these photos of daring-do men of Her Majesty’s Royal Air Force were taken in days gone by when the dark clouds of war were hanging over us, but you’d be wrong! Personnel from RAF Waddington have gone back to the 1940’s; a time when the moustache was considered part of the uniform for men serving in the Royal Air Force.
The lads from General Engineering Flight (GEF) RAF Waddington, with a stiff upper lip, supported Movember by growing that very iconic of RAF symbols and one often associated with RAF airman from World War Two (other than Brylcreem) … the Moustache.
They grew these throughout the month of November and all in aid of Charity. Indeed, this shows once again the fun spirit and desire to help others of the RAF personnel as they live and work in the Lincolnshire community.
As well as supporting the Movember nominated Cancer Charities, some of the proceeds will be donated to the Engineering Support Squadron charity; The Gem Appeal. Thirty individuals took part from GEF and they hope to have raised plenty of money for their nominated charities.
Sgt Mike Harney from GEF said: “The chaps in General Engineering Flight have done their best to fly the flag for prostate cancer awareness. The RAF MoBros have had differing success but the taches have been groomed and trimmed with pride.”
During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.
On November 1st, guys register at Movember.com with a clean-shaven face and for the rest of the month grow Moustaches.
Individuals growing Moustaches become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November and through their actions and words raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often-ignored issue of men’s health.
RAF Waddington is the UK hub of Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition & Reconnaissance (ISTAR) supporting national and NATO operations who use a range of airborne intelligence systems to achieve their vital mission, along with dedicated and highly skilled personnel, some of which sport a dashing moustache…
