Lincolnshire Show 2019 - From a Young Person's Perspective

The 135th Lincolnshire Show took place on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th June 2019. I was lucky enough to be invited to join the LincsMag team for the two days and this is my take on the show.

There was something for everyone at this year’s show, from vehicles to animals to food.

Police Dogs In Action

As a young person, one of the things that I found most enjoyable, was the East Midlands Police Dog Display Team who performed on both days in the Countryside Ring. Alongside the demonstration there was a commentary that explained the important role the police dogs have in fighting crime.

I found it a really interesting fact that the dogs are trained to bite an offender on the right arm due to the statistic that over 90% of the population are right-handed. Challenges to police dog training were also stated, including the fact that it can be very difficult in active situations to stop the dog from biting due to the fact they are selected for their intrinsic nature to hunt. Great Fun For Young People

The Lincolnshire Show included many activities for young people to take part in. For example, I was given the opportunity to experience radio broadcasting as well as presenting the weather at the BBC stand. I learnt that although very enjoyable, it’s also quite difficult because you need to have perfect timing and be ready to deal with any challenges quickly and spontaneously.

I found radio a lot easier than weather presenting! Another enjoyable activity at the show for me was at the University of Lincoln stand, where I achieved 100% in the Change the World quiz and later received a prize of a free t-shirt.

Many young children were extremely excited when meeting the hounds at the end of the Parade of Hounds in the Main Ring. It was lovely to get up close to the animals and I managed to capture a couple of snapshots on my phone. Overall, I would say that the Lincolnshire Show is very enjoyable for everyone – including young people. The wide range of activities and themes displayed means that there is something for all ages and interests and that it’s almost impossible over the two days to find yourself bored.
