You know how it is, you look out at that Supermarine Spitfire stuck in your back garden, being hammered by the elements, and keep telling yourself that one day you'll start on it's restoration, if only you knew how, or where to start.
Well good news, there just happens to be a Supermarine Spitfire Restoration Manual that has been lovingly created as an insight into building, restoring and returning Spitfires to the skies.
The Spitfire remains one of the most iconic combat aircraft and to own an airworthy example is the Holy Grail for warbird collectors.
Written by a lovely Lincolnshire based couple, Paul and Louise Blackah, the book really is a fascinating read for those interested in one of our nations most iconic aircraft, even if like me and most everyone else save a rare few, you don't have a Supermarine Spitfire knocking about somewhere on your estate.
I may jest, but amazingly for an aircraft that first flew more than 70 years ago it may seem incongruous that there is a flourishing industry centred on this aircraft in the 21st century.
Whether scratch-building or restoring an original Spitfire to airworthy condition, this is big business where aircraft change hands for several million pounds.
The manual's interesting technical details, and photographs to bring it to life, make this certainly a recommended book for aviation buffs as the authors reveal what it takes to build or restore a Spitfire and return it to the skies.
You don't need to own a Supermarine Spitfire to appreciate this book and its 260 colour & 40 b&w illustrations, just a love for a wonderful aircraft.
And we are fortunate in our county as it is an aircraft that still graces the Lincolnshire sky with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
