Norton Disney 1 Horse Trials 2017

Norton Disney Horse Trials once again showed why it is one of the most loved events in the Eventing calendar. Though still largely a grass roots event, it easily punches above its weight and manages to produce a Horse Trials that is exceptionally well run, well laid out, a gold class Cross Country course and all with a wonderful friendly atmosphere.

Well organised by Joe and Ali Weller along with the professional Georgie Fowle of Addoevents, and a lovely Cross Country course built and designed by Joe Weller, it's easy to see why it's a must for riders and owners.

The action over the two days was certainly kept at a brisk pace with rider after rider doing the Dressage, then the Showjumping, before going onto the Cross Country course, their results all being processed and recorded by the formidable and ever efficient BE Scorer Carolyn Simm and her team.

Lincolnshire Ladies, Kathryn Woolley on Oberonza and Sharon Knudsen on Parsons Rhapsody, took first places in the BE 90 Bloomfields Horseboxes Section B and BE80(T) Airowear Section E respectively.

Ella Woodhead on Balou De Beauvais won the Novice Pentagon Group Section I and Willa Newton on Freestyle R took first place in the BE100 Bagforce Section M.

BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award winner Frankie Dettori, decided to visit on the Sunday to cheer on his eldest daughter, Ella as she rode two horses, Cuffesgrange Craven Carel and The Kings Bishop in the last Section of the event, the BE100 Open Section O. It was obvious for all to see that he was a proud father and happy to see that the racing blood certainly flows through his daughter.

Indeed, there were many proud family and friends watching the Eventers and cheering them on, as they enjoyed the beautiful weather. Many, if not all, now looking forward to Norton Disney Horse Trials 2, which is well known for being one of the last Horse Trials of the season and definitely in the opinions of many, the best way to end it.
