Like so many outdoor events this spring, the weather was not kind to the organisers of Countryside Lincs. However, despite the rainfall, families with small children still turned out to visit Lincolnshire Showground in what has proven to be a popular annual event.

Held on Sunday 8th April, this year's event focused on local Lincolnshire food producers with Alford based egg producers LJ Fairburn & Son exhibiting. The Lincolnshire company have produced eggs in the county since 1951 and have transformed to become one of the largest independent producers and packers in the UK.

Of this year's family-friendly event, Sarah Louise Fairburn, brand and sales director at LJ Fairburn & Son, said "This year it is all about educating children about the importance of eating well and we will be doing just that through teaching children about the goodness of eggs and examples of what you can make with them".

Along the same theme, the popular event also included a Food Zone which enabled national award-winning farmers Redhill Farm the opportunity to exhibit by showcasing their highest quality, ethically farmed free-range pork.

Aside from food producers, Countryside Lincs is an inclusive event which welcomes lots of local and national charities including The Woodland Trust and the RSPB who both had stalls on the Showground. Inside, an appearance by North Lincolnshire based Andrew's Hedgehog Hospital proved popular. Young visitors to the event enjoyed being able to get up close to a one year old hedgehog named "Nutella" who has been cared for by the group over the winter. East Lincs Bassett Hounds

Despite the wet weather, the largest crowd of the day was drawn to the Countryside Ring to join in activities with the East Lincs Bassett Hounds. The family-friendly appearance by the hunt allowed children to get close to the hounds and enjoy racing them from one end of the ring to the other - certainly a highlight of the day for many!

If you missed out on this year's event, there are many more countryside themed exhibits to enjoy at the Showground in just ten weeks with the return of the Lincolnshire Show. The 2018 event will be held at the venue on 20th and 21st June.
