The first day of spring brought sunshine and with it came hundreds of spectators who lined the streets to support runners in the Gainsborough and Morton 10K Road Race. Last Sunday's event is now into its fifth year and included the villages of Morton, Walkerwith and East Stockwith.

The race was organised by Gainsborough and Morton Striders and saw more than seven hundred runners complete the 6.2 mile course. Like many local road races, the event was well supported by running clubs from across Lincolnshire and the surrounding area.

With just weeks to go until several spring marathons including London, the good weather on Sunday meant that this race served as an ideal training run.

The top finishers were as follows:

Men
1. Nick Martin (Caistor Running Club) - 32:24
2. Lewis Jagger (Lincoln Wellington) - 32:39
3. Matty Smith (Scunthorpe and District) - 32:57

Women
1. Jenny Blizard (Rotherham Harriers) - 39:02
2. Beverley Wilson (Cleethorpes A C) - 39:35
3. Lindsey Skinner (Scunthorpe and District) - 39:40 Gainsborough and Morton 10K - Lincolnshire Magazine - LincsMag.com

Gainsborough and Morton Striders have a tradition of using some of the proceeds of the race to support a charity as nominated by one of their members. This year's event supported the Leonard Cheshire Disability charity as chosen by Chris Litherland.

Alongside the main event, the morning also featured a fun run for juniors which featured several runners from Lincolnshire running clubs. Gainsborough and Morton 10K - Lincolnshire Magazine - LincsMag.com
