25 high fliers from Royal Air Force Waddington have been presented with their honours and awards by the Station Commander, Group Captain Rich Barrow in a ceremony at the Officers’ Mess.

Recognising Service of Outstanding Merit

Recipients of the Honours and Awards were encouraged to invite family, friends and work colleagues to the ceremony which is held as a means of recognising service of outstanding merit which have been rendered beyond the normal demands of duty.

Group Captain Rich Barrow presented the awards and personally congratulated the recipients on their achievements.

He said; “It is a pleasure to present these awards to such outstanding recipients. Only those individuals that are truly exceptional are recognised with an Honour or Award”

Talented Linguist

Amongst the 25 recipients was Sergeant Nicki Appelbe from 51 Squadron. Sgt Appelbe is a talented linguist fluent in Pashto, Arabic and French and rapidly proved herself to be an asset to operations in Mali establishing working relationships across many areas and gaining the trust of the French and Senegalese agencies.

Nicki said: “It’s and honour to receive such an accolade. It was a great opportunity to be involved in such a high profile operation where I learnt a huge amount from all the deployed members. I look forward to using my new skills in the future”.
