Grant Boost for Witham Sailing Club

Witham Sailing Club’s exciting 2011 continues after the club discovered it had been awarded a £2,000 community grant from Lincolnshire Co-operative to develop their clubhouse site.
The club, situated on the west bank of the River Witham, recently became a recognised RYA Training Centre for sailing and powerboating, meaning it conforms to the highest standards of quality and safety in the world, handing the club a massive boost in encouraging more people to go along and get involved with their activities.
The latest bit of good news about the funding means that the club can now progress their plans for the development of a new storage building, which, during the summer season will be used an extra classroom to support RYA Training course activity, while in the winter it will be used to protect club equipment and boats from the elements.
Better Opportunities
Paul Burton, Witham SC Rear Commodore and Training Principal, says the club are working harder than ever to create more, and better opportunities, for people in the local community to sail regularly.
“It has been a really exciting year so far for the club. Become an RYA Training Centre was a massive step forward and now there are lots of other plans in the pipeline to help us develop our facilities and equipment so that we can appeal to an even wider audience.
“We are very grateful to the Lincolnshire Co-operative for their support. When we applied for the grant we offered to match the project through our members, and install the base for the building. To really make this a community project we are now exploring whether local building merchants maybe interested in helping us by supplying materials for the base.”
Open Day
On Sunday May 29, Witham Sailing Club hosted an Open Day with some 40 people visiting the club to enjoy a free sailing taster session or just get a taste for what life at the club can offer.
