The 4th Lincolnshire Police Open Day on Sunday May 9th at Police Headquarters, Deepdale Lane, Nettleham, Lincoln, was once more a spectacular and fun day out for all, especially for families.

With a crowd of over 8000, the Lincolnshire Police did their very best in providing a fabulous day’s entertainment where there was something of interest for everyone.

This year for the first time, the 50th National Dog Trials finals were hosted by Lincolnshire Police, with Sergeant Paul A. Cragg of Operations Support, Police Dog Section, doing a first class job of keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.

A couple of the Nottinghamshire Police Horses (Lion heart and Trojan) were also wandering around the grounds and fitted in well to the surroundings, well Lincolnshire being a mainly rural and large county, horses are a natural everyday sight.

Around and About

The three Marquees provided not only interesting and fun features, but also valuable information with such displays as the Lincolnshire Police Authority, Lincolnshire Probation Trust, Victim Support and Neighbourhood Policing with PC50 Kirsty Taylor helping to man the South Division Stand and doing her best to answer the publics many questions.

The Lincolnshire Wildlife display, which was located just behind the Force Command and Control Centre, had some valuable information and displays showing the vital work of the specialist teams, which the Lincolnshire Wildlife Crime Officer, Nick Willey, along with his colleague, was on hand to explain to the general public.

Near to the Wildlife display was a display of classic police cars, one of which had stared in the television series, Heartbeat. The vehicles are part of The Police Vehicle Enthusiasts Club.

Close by in the main building near the police café, were two rooms of impressive police memorabilia from the Police Museum.

Further on, down near the lake, which is located behind the main Police Building, was the Lincolnshire Police Underwater Search Unit and their specially equipped mobile unit.

In another section of the grounds was the Skid Pan Demo as well as a display of the Lincolnshire Police Fleet alongside the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership and Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue display.

The Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership’s stunningly impressive Crash Simulator was something that just has to be experienced and brings home the implications of bad driving.
