STANDING FOR 'Active Sports Crossover', the Mitsubishi ASX is a model that unashamedly pays homage to the massively popular Nissan Qashqai.

The car basically blends the merits of a compact hatchback and a condensed SUV into one.

The Mitsubishi is built using the same floor as the well-known Lancer and Outlander models and it features a stop-start system as standard, which brings the engine to a halt when the car is not moving.

LED lighting and electric power steering, are just a few of the other standard fitments too.

Interior and Performance

The diesel, on test here, gets a six-speed gearbox to help with economy, but the ASX's cabin is really the selling point. It's really spacious, with superb rear legroom, decent headroom and a dash which features a vibrant set of expensive looking dials.

The ASX's seats are comfortable and give a first-rate driving position, making it easy to drive and, for a tallish vehicle, the car inspires confidence because it feels well planted to the road.

The diesel engine takes a while to warm up, but it packs a punch when the turbo kicks in, and the standard stop-start system works well without much judder as the engine turns off and restarts.

The Mitsubishi ASX will appeal to anyone who likes a bit of fun and practicality mixed together.

Sexy Shades

The individual shape of the car looks chic and the Japanese motor manufacturer offers some sexy shades of metallic colours, which make the ASX look even better.

It’s a fantastic first car to buy because it’s so easy to drive and offers great value for money.

Above all, it is certainly the right vehicle to get if you’ve just had kids and you need something with space and economy, but still want a car with a funky edge.
