The whisper of wind through the jagged blades of green carried past, flowing over and surrounding my sun kissed skin.

Against their will, grains of sand and the littlest of bugs breezed by. With it, my thoughts flew over the coming tide. Serene and surreal. A home away from home.

Each crashing wave dutifully distracted, yet I remained in awe. In a world once known as a child, it felt as though I was a stranger amongst this land. The white sands and seagulls, unfamiliar now.

So long ago, it was, when my feet felt the rushing water over top and shells beneath.

So long ago, it was, when the salty scent was breathed in.

Fragments of a memory made many years before, seemed so vivid then. Just off the shore and knee deep in water, I'd felt the smallest tickling sensation on my legs. Thinking it must have been a fish of some sort, I squeezed my knees together in hopes of catching it.

Although I was surprisingly successful with my alternative fishing methods, I was greatly disappointed when the realization of the sort of fish captured, was that of a jelly fish. I don't suppose it appreciated being nearly squeezed to death, and so its retaliation was brutal. Needless to say, the jellyfish had won.

A time before then, and much younger a child, my curiosity had the better of me. Scurrying across the waters rim just below a pier, my unsteady feet stumbled and my little bum scrapped across an oyster bed.

Additional incidents with other sea creatures occurred later in life, hence the reason for hesitation of re-entering. I wondered if perhaps the fears of the deep blue sea, lay in its calmest and clearest edge. Yet, the tease of the waters welcoming ways, won me over.

Sands of Time

So much had changed in the years since last visiting the Floridian waters, that it felt like a first time experience. And it was. Seeing through the eyes of an adult, I realized how much more there was to look upon. With sand in my toes and the loss of all my woes.
