Mablethorpe set out to have a fun filled day on the 26 June, to mark the switching on of their Illuminations, and being blessed with gorgeous sunny weather it turned out to be a marvellous family day out.

The event organised and funded by East Lindsey District Council in partnership with Mablethorpe Town Council and Mablethorpe Area Partnership Community Interest Company, was well set out with the daytime programme of events kicking off with a street market in High Street at 10am which ran up until around 4pm.

Throughout the day there was the Street Theatre with a very noticeable Bonnie & Clyde by the Rhubarb Theatre Company, who were armed with water pistols, but in the warm weather that was more welcomed than a threat from the gangster duo.

There was also a traditional Punch and Judy show, well it wouldn't quite be a British seaside event without one, and at mid-day, for those who loved a hands-on challenge, there was a Love Sandcastle Challenge where people were encouraged to create fantastic sand sculptures on Central Beach.

In the afternoon the beach was the setting for a host of family-themed activities and entertainment including local singers Elya, Joey P and Rebecca Lomas.

Cracking Entertainment

It was the evening though which brought on some cracking entertainment, with entertainers and magicians on the specially erected stage on Central Beach. There was music from Dean Fox, Two-step and Covers Band "Stolen Fridays" who certainly entertained the crowd and got people dancing to the nostalgic and catchy tunes.

Then, as it became dark, there was Spark, whose movement and lighting spectacular in which seven mysterious characters composed of light and sound transformed the landscape around them. With their magical live music these colourful troop of drummers moved amongst the crowd as well as entertaining everyone on stage.

The fun filled day finally finished at 10.30pm with a magnificent firework display in the skies above the beach and the switching on of the illuminations.
