A Cat As A Patient!

As a rule, a sick cat is a very bad patient; he never seems to understand that his best human friend is anxious to help him and he will struggle hard in his efforts to avoid taking medicine.

The simplest - and safest - plan is to wrap a cloth round the cat to prevent him from scratching; then, if a pill or capsule is to be given, press very gently with the first finger and thumb on the chest bones and the cat will open his mouth.

The cat merely requires an aperient it is best to give it in the form of sardines with a liberal helping of the oil, which all cats love. -. A dainty cat, or one that is slightly out of sorts, can often be tempted to eat by feeding it with the hands.

Cats and Children

Please realise that the lives of many cats are made miserable by young children who, with the best of intentions, meerly worry them by continually hugging them; a young Cat may be seriously injured by that kind of petting.

Cats also resent being dressed up (Do you remember Tom in Tom & Jerry?); that kind of game does not appeal to them.

Also a ribbon tied round a cat's neck may cause its death, for when the cat is climbing a tree the ribbon may get caught on a branch. The cat struggles and, in the end, may hang himself.

Children should be reminded that it is the nature of a cat to sleep during part of the day and that a young cat soon gets tired of a game and wants to be left alone so that it may go to sleep. If the day is fine and sunny he will choose some spot in the sun for its resting-place; all cats are sun-worshippers.
